Biography
Nyasia McMillion is a composer currently based in Laurel, Maryland. She began playing the piano at the age of five and later studied with classical pianist Nicolás Pellón. While under Pellón's tutelage, Nyasia attended several Masterclasses given by Leon Fleisher, Dmitri Shelest, and Misuzu Tanaka. Nyasia began experimenting with writing short compositions and songs around the age of eight and her love of film music was born from an adoration for the music of Disney and DreamWorks films.
In 2020, Nyasia graduated from New York University (NYU) with a Bachelor of Music in Music Business. During her undergraduate career, Nyasia explored all areas of the music industry. She also received the opportunity to study abroad in Abu Dhabi, UAE where she studied mixing and mastering. Nyasia continued to expand her knowledge of the music industry through experience at several publishing companies and recording studios including Primary Wave Entertainment and Jungle City Studios.
Nyasia earned a Master’s of Music in Screen Scoring from NYU and is continually working on developing her own creative sound. She has also been featured on New York University’s screen scoring Instagram page for her original composition played by renowned guitarist Dave Cleveland. Nyasia enjoys writing music for all genres of film and TV but her favorite’s include epic/fantasy and drama. She is an avid reader and has combined her love of reading and film scoring to compose original soundtracks for the chapters in one of her favorite novels. Nyasia has studied with several working composers including Ariel Marx and John Kaefer and has interned with Catherine Joy at Joy Music House.
